Quite often I price match everything at Walmart to get my grocery shopping done quickly. Occasionally though, there are certain products that Walmart doesn't carry and I also like to check out other stores. You would be surprised what in store specials you miss out on, if you only shop at 1 grocery store. I also like checking clearance items at my favourite Shoppers Drug Mart so I try to go in there a couple times a week as well.
I organize my shops and my time so I'm using it efficiently. I like to get this kind of shopping done during the days when the kids are in school and the stores are quiet so that I'm in and out in 15 minutes.
Obviously, I have checked the flyers and have my deals on a list in my phone, I grab a couple coupons if I'm going to be using them and keep the rest of my coupons in my van. That way I'm not carrying a lot into the store, but the coupons are there if I find an unadvertised deal.
I first stopped at the Sobey's closest to my house. I like the produce sales that Sobey's has. I wanted to pick up leaf lettuce, sour cream & bagged lettuce since it was on sale this week. I also found 907g bags of mandarin oranges on sale for $1.49, regular $5.99. Not sure if the oranges are an in store deal or at all Sobey's.
My next stop was Save On Foods. I usually pick up the Simply Steam Green Giant veggies when there on sale for $1 at Save On. This sale usually happens every couple months. I like this brand because they carry a mixed veggies with potato that my sons like for school lunch.
Also on my list for Save On was 12 packs of Minute Maid juice cans for $4 (also great for teenage boys lunches), and Babybel Cheese for $3. When I walked in I also noticed they had a managers special of cut pineapple in cups 3/$1, regular price of $2 each.
Last stop before school pick up was Shoppers Drug Mart. I just needed gum and I also like to check the clearance at this store. Don't forget to check clearance in the dairy case as well. I have found great deals on cheese, yoghurt and bacon this way.
In clearance they had an 18 pack of Wagon Wheels with a $3.00 sticker - not a rock bottom price at 3.99 but my daughter has been asking for them for months and this is the best price I could find. I also found Belvitta cookies for $2.49 and I knew there was a $1 Checkout 51 coupon as well. I found gum and it was on clearance! Regular 1.89 with $1 stickers attached.
Total amount I saved on these 3 trips was $73. I would say that was well worth my time and all these stores were on the way to my son's school so I didn't waste gas making extra trips.
