Watch for new coupons in Superstore & No Frills by tomorrow and also look in other grocery stores starting on Saturday. Other stores that have coupons include Safeway, Save On Foods, Shoppers Drug Mart, Rexall, Canadian Tire, and Co-Op.
I have a couple tips to help you find the coupons you want:
1) Coupons can go quickly. If you really want certain ones, you need to go to the store soon after I post that the new coupons are there: do not wait until next week to go get them.
Take the extra 10 minutes during the week that coupons are going in the store to stop in and pick some up. Superstore is re- stocked once a week, and the other stores only every 2 weeks. But if there is a hot coupon like $1 off any Crest toothpaste for example, it will be gone the first week. If the manufacturer didn't supply a lot of coupons to begin with, then it may not be re-stocked again.
Now you might think, " I don't have time to run into these stores and pick up coupons." If you really want to save money on groceries, you need to make the time. Remember, new coupons only go in once a month - that means you only have to do this 1 week out of the month.
Is it worth it to never pay a dime for toothpaste or toothbrushes again?
2) If you want more then 4 or 5 of a certain coupon, please visit multiple stores. This makes it very frustrating for the people who would also like some. Go to another Superstore or Shoppers Drug Mart and get 4 or 5 more.
3) When you see a coupon for an item, ask yourself 2 questions. The first is: if I could get this item for really cheap or free using this coupon, would I buy it? If not, leave it there. If you never buy that item because it's too expensive, but would like to, then take a few coupons. You would be amazed what goes on sale or on clearance and you never know when you will use that coupon.
The second question is: What is the expiry date on the coupon? If it's a long expiry, like 6 months or longer, maybe take a few more if you will buy that item. If it's a short expiry, like 3 weeks and you are fully stocked and don't need any, then don't take any coupons.
One of the aspects I always teach is coupon etiquette, and so these suggestions are not meant to harp on anyone, but rather, to ensure that that part of the message gets out too. It is not only about getting stuff for cheap or free, but also about how to do that in a way that everyone wins.
I also am trying to teach this as a skill rather then a hobby. If you are not consciously getting out to the stores and picking up coupons when they are new, then you are not ready for the sales that gets you free items. I have been doing this for 3 years and it never fails that the coupon I don't pick up or keep, is the one that is needed for a fantastic sale!
